25 Testimonial Request Email Templates (Copy and Paste)
Twenty-five copy-and-paste testimonial request emails, grouped by situation: after a purchase, after a win, for clients, for B2B, for video, and the follow-ups that recover quiet customers.
A good testimonial request email is short, personal and specific. It reaches the customer soon after they got a result, asks two or three easy questions, and links straight to a form. Most requests fail on one of those: they arrive too late, read like a newsletter, or ask the customer to “write something” on a blank page.
Below are 25 testimonial request email templates you can copy and paste, grouped by situation, plus subject lines that get opened, follow-ups for people who do not reply, and the mistakes that cost answers. They fit into step 3 of our complete guide to collecting customer testimonials, which covers who to ask, when, and how to get permission.
What makes a testimonial request email work
Every template below follows the same five rules. Keep them when you adapt the wording.
- 1Personal. Use their first name and mention what they bought or achieved. Send from a person, not “noreply”.
- 2Timed to a result. Ask right after the customer felt the benefit, not on a fixed date. Our guide to how to ask for a review covers the best moments.
- 3Short. Three short paragraphs at most. The link is the point, not the paragraph around it.
- 4Specific prompts. “What changed since you started?” is easy to answer. “Can you write us a testimonial?” is not.
- 5Low effort and low pressure. One link, no account, video or text, and an easy way to say no.
Throughout, replace the parts in square brackets. [Your collection link] is the link to your testimonial form; with StoryProof, that is your branded collection page, where customers record a video or type a few sentences in the browser.
Testimonial request email templates after a purchase

Follow-up and reminder templates
Most people who do not reply are busy, not unwilling. Send the first reminder three to five days later, the second about a week after that, and then stop.
Re: [original subject]
Hi [First name], Just bringing this back to the top of your inbox. If you have two minutes this week, we'd love to hear how [product] is going: [Your collection link] Thanks either way, [Your name]
Two sentences is plenty

Last note from me on this
Hi [First name], I won't keep asking. If you ever want to share how [product] is working for you, the link stays open: [Your collection link] Thank you for being a customer. [Your name]

May we share your kind words?

Thank you for giving us a second chance
Hi [First name], Things didn't start smoothly, and I appreciate you sticking with us while we put it right. If you're comfortable, would you share your honest experience, including the rough start? Buyers trust a story with an ending like yours. [Your collection link] [Your name]
[Subject in the customer's language]
Hi [First name], [Write this email in the customer's language.] Would you share a short testimonial about [product]? The form opens in your language, and you can answer in video or text: [Your collection link] [Your name]
StoryProof collection forms are available in six languages, and each review request email is sent in the recipient’s language.
Subject lines that get testimonial requests opened
A subject line should sound like it came from a person who knows the customer. Ten that work, grouped by approach:
| Approach | Subject line |
|---|---|
| Personal check-in | How are you getting on with [product], [First name]? |
| Personal check-in | Quick question about [project name] |
| Celebrate a result | Congrats on [milestone]! |
| Celebrate a result | Those [result] numbers deserve a quote |
| Small ask | Two minutes to help other [customers like you]? |
| Small ask | Two sentences is plenty |
| Gratitude | Thank you for [number] years, [First name] |
| Gratitude | Thanks for renewing, [First name] |
| Video | Would you record a 60-second video for us? |
| Permission | May we share your kind words? |

Avoid subject lines that read like marketing: “We value your feedback!”, “Customer survey”, or anything in capitals with exclamation marks.
Mistakes that cost you testimonials
- Asking only your happiest customers. It reads as less believable and is the pattern platforms ban. Our guide to review gating explains why.
- Offering a reward for a positive review. Under the FTC rule on consumer reviews and testimonials, an incentive conditioned on the review expressing a particular sentiment is unfair or deceptive (16 CFR 465.4 (opens in a new tab)). A thank-you given to everyone who replies, whatever they say, is a different matter. This is general information, not legal advice.
- Writing it for them. A testimonial you drafted sounds like you. Send prompts instead, or quote their actual words with their approval.
- Asking too late. Six months after delivery, the detail has faded.
- Too many steps. Logins, attachments and “reply with your answers” all lose people. Use one link.
- Too many reminders. Two is the limit. A customer who felt hounded will not give a warm testimonial.
How to send these as a campaign
Copying templates into your inbox works for a handful of customers. For more, send them as a review request campaign so you can track who replied and remind only the rest.
- 1Import your customers as contacts, or add them one at a time, and tag them by product or segment.
- 2Paste the template into a review request, using merge tags such as the contact’s first name.
- 3Send to one person or a whole list, and watch each status: sent, opened, clicked, completed, bounced or unsubscribed.
- 4Send reminders only to people who have not completed it. On Pro and above, an automation can send the follow-up for you after a delay you choose.
- 5Approve answers before they go public, then add them to a widget or your Wall of Love.
Anyone who unsubscribes or bounces is never emailed again by that workspace. Free includes 10 request emails a month so you can try the flow before choosing a plan.
Frequently asked questions
How do you write an email asking for a testimonial?
Address the customer by name, mention the result they got, ask two or three specific questions, and link to a short form where they can answer in video or text. Keep it under about 120 words, send it from a person, and tell them they can choose how their answer is used.
When should I send a testimonial request email?
Soon after the customer has felt the benefit: a few days after delivery and first use, after a first win or milestone, at handover or renewal, or right after they praise you unprompted.
How many times should I follow up on a testimonial request?
Twice at most. Send the first reminder three to five days after the original email and the second about a week later, offering a smaller ask such as two sentences. Then stop and thank them anyway.
Can I offer a discount for a testimonial?
Not in exchange for a positive one. The FTC rule on consumer reviews and testimonials treats incentives conditioned on a particular sentiment as unfair or deceptive. A thank-you given to everyone who replies, whatever they say, is different, but some review platforms ban incentives altogether. Disclose any reward. This is general information, not legal advice.
What should I put in a testimonial request subject line?
Something personal and specific, such as the customer’s name and product, a milestone they reached, or a small ask like “Two sentences is plenty”. Avoid generic lines like “We value your feedback”.
