For plumbers, HVAC, electricians and cleaners
Collect a testimonial before the van leaves the driveway
A customer is most grateful in the ten minutes after the heating comes back on. Leave a card with a QR code, send one short email that evening, and ask before you photograph their home.
- Wording for a leave-behind card with your QR code
- A same-day follow-up email
- A plain request to photograph the finished work
The problem, solved
Why trades jobs end without a testimonial, and how to change that
Situation 1 of 4
The tech is already at the next job
Asking is nobody’s job on site, and the office calls days later when the relief has faded.
How StoryProof solves it
The office sends one StoryProof email request the same evening, so the ask lands while the heating is still a fresh relief and nobody has to phone round.
Situation 2 of 4
Customers will not download anything
An older homeowner will scan a code or tap a link, but not install an app or create an account.
How StoryProof solves it
The link opens in the phone’s browser, where the homeowner can type a line, talk into an audio note or record a short video. There is nothing to install.
Situation 3 of 4
Photos of someone’s home
A before-and-after of a boiler cupboard is great proof, but it is their house. Ask first.
How StoryProof solves it
Every submission waits for your approval, so a video showing a house number or a street name can be held back before it reaches your site.
Situation 4 of 4
New hires never hear about the card
A newer technician or a subcontractor was never shown the handover, so every job they finish ends without an ask.
How StoryProof solves it
Print the form’s QR code on the invoice template itself. Every customer gets the ask with their paperwork, whoever did the job.
Copy kit
Your handover kit
Fill in your details and switch between the card, the evening email and the photo request.
- Card or invoice footer, beside your QR code
Print your StoryProof QR code next to this text.
Thanks for having us in today. If [Technician] did a good job, scan the code and tell us in a sentence or a 30-second video. It helps neighbours choose who to let into their home. [Your business]
- What the technician says at the door
“That’s [the boiler repair] done. If you’re happy with it, there’s a code on the card. A line or two about today really helps us. Thanks for having me.”
Filled in your browser. Nothing is stored or sent.
Prompts
Prompts that get a specific story
Put two of these on your StoryProof form. A specific job story is more convincing than “great service”.
Emergency call-outs
- What had gone wrong, and how worried were you?
- How quickly did we get there, and what happened next?
Leave out
- Asking them to rate competitors
Planned installs and upgrades
- What made you choose us for the job?
- How did the team leave your home afterwards?
Regular cleaning or servicing
- What do you no longer have to think about since we started?
- Who on the team do you look forward to seeing?
In StoryProof
Run it with StoryProof
- You will need
- Cards or invoice templates you can print a QR code on
- A StoryProof workspace
- 1
Make a form with two prompts
Customers answer from their phone with a video, an audio note or a few typed words, with no app.
- 2
Print the QR code on the card or invoice
Technicians hand it over at the door. The same link can go in the evening email.
- 3
Approve and tag by service and area
Nothing is public until you approve it. Tags such as “boiler”, “emergency” or a town name let each service page show the right stories.
- 4
Show them where people decide
Add approved stories to service pages, or share your hosted Wall of Love link in quotes and estimates.
What happens next: Thank the technician by name when their customer’s story goes up. It makes asking at the door feel normal.
Before you start
Keep it fair
What this does not cover, and what to check on your side. Better to know now than after launch.
- 01
Ask everyone, not only happy faces
Hand the card to every customer. Picking who gets asked based on how the job went skews your proof and can break review platform rules.
- 02
No addresses in photos or text
Remove house numbers and street names before publishing anything. A town name is usually enough.
- 03
Email and QR only
StoryProof sends requests by email. If you text customers from your own phone, paste the link in yourself.
- 04
Tenants and landlords differ
The person who let you in may not be the one paying. Ask whoever saw the work, and do not describe a tenant’s home without their agreement.
FAQ
Questions people ask
Short answers to what usually comes up next.
When should a plumber or HVAC tech ask for a testimonial?
At the door when the job is finished and working, with a card to scan, then once more by email that evening. Later than a day or two and the moment has passed.
Can older customers leave a testimonial without an app?
Yes. They scan the code or tap the link and type, talk or record in the browser.
Can I use photos of the job?
Ask first, keep a note of the answer, and leave out anything that identifies the home or the people in it.
Should technicians get a bonus for testimonials?
If you offer one, reward the asking, not the result. A bonus tied only to glowing answers pushes technicians to pick who they hand the card to.
What if the customer is out when the job finishes?
Leave the card with the invoice and rely on the evening email. Say in it what was done, since they did not see the work happen.
