Migration
Move the testimonials in your spreadsheet into one place you can publish from
Years of praise often lives in a spreadsheet, an old plugin export or a notes doc. Drop the file into the checker to see exactly what will import, fix what will not, and download a clean CSV ready for StoryProof.
The problem, solved
What makes a testimonial spreadsheet hard to move, and how StoryProof handles it
Every sheet names its columns differently
One tab says Client, another says Name, and an old plugin export calls it author_display. Nobody wants to rebuild the file by hand.
With StoryProof: On upload, you match whatever headers the file has to reviewer name, review text, rating, company, job title and date. A name is the one field that must be filled.
Old rows would go live untouched
A spreadsheet built over years holds quotes about retired plans and people who have since left, mixed in with the good ones.
With StoryProof: Imported rows land in the approval queue rather than on your site, so the outdated ones can simply stay unpublished.
The video testimonials live in a separate folder
The spreadsheet holds the words, while the clips customers sent sit in a drive that nobody links to the rows.
With StoryProof: Video files you already have go straight into StoryProof, next to the rows you imported from the sheet.
Hundreds of imported quotes in one heap
Once everything is in one place, finding the three that suit a pricing page is as slow as it was in the spreadsheet.
With StoryProof: Tag the imported library by product, audience or source, then pick exactly which testimonials go into each widget.
Flip the switch to see how StoryProof handles each one.
Free checker
Check your testimonial file
Upload a CSV or paste the rows straight from your spreadsheet. The checker guesses which column is which, lets you correct it, and shows what will import.

Up to 5 MB. Read in your browser only.
Your file is read by your browser and never uploaded. Close the tab and it is gone.
What each column becomes
A CSV export can be uploaded and its columns matched to reviewer name, review text, rating, company, job title and date. Only the name is required.
In StoryProof
Import it into StoryProof
- 1
Open Import and choose CSV
Upload the file the checker gave you. Its headers are named after the StoryProof fields, so the mapping step is quick.
- 2
Confirm the column mapping
Check each column lands on the right field, especially rating and date.
- 3
Review the imported testimonials
Imports wait for approval like anything else, so you can drop the ones that are out of date before they appear anywhere.
- 4
Tag them and put them to work
Tag by product, audience or source, then add the best to a widget or your Wall of Love.
What happens next: Imported reviews count toward the same monthly allowance as collected ones: Free 25, Starter 100, Pro unlimited.
Before you start
Before you import
What this does not cover, and what to check on your side. Better to know now than after launch.
- 01
Permission travels with the testimonial
A quote a customer gave you for one page was not necessarily given for every page. If you are unsure, ask before publishing an old testimonial somewhere new.
- 02
Large files count against your monthly allowance
A big archive on a small plan may need importing over more than one month, or a larger plan for the month you move.
- 03
Videos are separate
A CSV carries text and details only. Existing video files are uploaded directly from Import, one by one.
- 04
Rows copied from review sites
A review pasted in from another platform was written under that platform’s terms. Check them before republishing those rows as testimonials on your own site.
FAQ
Questions people ask
Short answers to what usually comes up next.
What columns does a testimonial CSV need?
Only the reviewer’s name is required. Review text, rating, company, job title and date are optional but make each testimonial far more useful.
Is my spreadsheet uploaded when I use the checker?
No. The file is read by your browser with JavaScript and is never sent to StoryProof or anyone else.
Can I paste from Google Sheets or Excel instead of exporting?
Yes. Copy the rows including the header row and paste them into the checker. Tab-separated text is detected automatically.
Which copy should I keep when a testimonial appears twice?
Keep the version closest to what the customer actually wrote, with the original date. Move any extra detail, such as a job title, into that row and delete the other before importing.
Should I import every row, even the weak ones?
Import them and decide during review. Imported testimonials wait for approval, so a weak or outdated row can stay unpublished without being lost.
