In product proof

Show Testimonials Inside Your App Dashboard

Your public site convinced someone to sign up. Inside the product, a different set of decisions waits: upgrade or stay on the free tier, invite the team or not, try the feature they keep skipping. A testimonial from a customer who made that same choice can help, as long as it appears at the moment of the decision and never gets in the way of work.

  • Matched to the decision on that screen
  • Out of the way of daily work
  • Uses the same embed as your website

The problem, solved

Why in product proof goes wrong, and how StoryProof keeps it useful

  • The upgrade screen is just a feature table

Users comparing tiers inside the app see checkmarks, not anyone who upgraded and found it worth it.

  • Engineering will not build a testimonial component

A custom block competes with roadmap work and goes stale once shipped.

  • Proof would clutter our workspace

A carousel above a user’s task list is noise on the hundredth visit.

  • Nobody uses the feature we built

An empty state that just says “No reports yet” gives no reason to try.

  • Our branding cannot show inside the product

A third party badge inside a paid product can look out of place.

Flip the switch to see how StoryProof handles each one.

Placement picker

Find the in product moment worth a testimonial

Pick the screen you are thinking about. The picker says whether proof belongs there and in what form.

Which screen is it?
How often does a user see this screen?
What is the user deciding?

The picker runs fixed rules in your browser and stores nothing.

Prompts

Questions that produce in product testimonials

In product proof only works if it speaks to the exact decision. Ask customers who already made it.

Customers who upgraded

  • What made you move up a plan, and was it worth it?
  • What could you do afterwards that you could not before?

Leave out

  • Asking them to praise the price

Customers who adopted a feature late

  • What finally made you try it?
  • What do you use it for now?

Teams that invited colleagues

  • What changed once the rest of the team was in?

Leave out

  • Naming colleagues who did not agree to be mentioned

Before you start

What to know first

What this does not cover, and what to check on your side. Better to know now than after launch.

  1. 01

    Web apps only

The embed is HTML and a script. Native mobile screens that do not render web content are outside what this page describes.

  2. 02

    Count your widgets

Each decision screen uses a widget, and the number of widgets per workspace depends on the plan.

  3. 03

Your app decides who sees what

A widget shows the testimonials you chose for it. Showing different proof to different users comes down to which screen your app renders it on.

  4. 04

    Paying users are not prospects

Selling at people who already pay can grate. Keep proof to upgrade and adoption moments.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Short answers to what usually comes up next.

Where should testimonials go inside a SaaS app?

On screens where a user decides something: upgrade pages, trial reminders, empty states and invite dialogs. Not on daily work screens.

Will a widget slow down my app?

The script loads asynchronously. Still, keep widgets to the few decision screens rather than every view.

Can I use the same testimonials as my website?

You can, but in product screens work better with quotes about the exact decision, such as upgrading, than with general praise.

Does this work in a single page app?

The embed is a div and a script, so it can sit in any view that renders HTML. The React and Next.js setup page covers the details.
