After the testimonial arrives
Testimonial Thank You Message Templates
A customer who took ten minutes to write or record something for you deserves more than silence. A short, specific thank you, sent when the testimonial goes live and with a link to where it appears, closes the loop and makes the next ask easier.
- Mentions what they actually said
- Sent when it goes live, with a link
- No gift, no strings, just thanks
Message builder
Write the thank you
Pick what kind of testimonial they left, fill in the details, and copy. The more of their own words you echo back, the less it reads like a form letter.
- It is live
Subject: Your words are on [our homepage]
Hi [Jordan], Thank you for writing about [how quickly the team set things up]. It is now live on [our homepage]: [link] It is the kind of detail that helps someone else decide, and you took the time to put it in writing. We appreciate it. [Alex]
- Short reply on receipt
Send this the same day if publishing will take a while.
Thanks so much, [Jordan]. We just read what you wrote about [how quickly the team set things up] and it made our day. We will let you know when it goes up. [Alex]

The problem, solved
Why thank yous get skipped, and how StoryProof helps
Most businesses mean to say thank you. These are the reasons it does not happen, or happens badly.
- Problem 1
We forget to thank people at all
Testimonials trickle in between other work, and by the time anyone notices, a thank you weeks later feels like an afterthought.
How StoryProof solves it
From Pro, an automation can email the customer a thank you two hours after you approve their testimonial, with a link to it.
- Problem 2
They never see where it ended up
A thank you without a link leaves the customer wondering whether their words were used at all.
How StoryProof solves it
Every plan includes a Wall of Love, a hosted page of your approved testimonials with its own link you can put in the message.
- Problem 3
We thank them before it is published
Saying “it is live!” before you have checked it means a correction later, or a thank you for something that never goes up.
How StoryProof solves it
Nothing goes public until you approve it, so a thank you tied to approval arrives only once the testimonial is really out.
- Problem 4
A low rating came in, not praise
A thank you template sent to an unhappy customer reads as tone deaf and makes things worse.
How StoryProof solves it
From Pro, a review of 2 stars or fewer can alert your team and send the customer a personal apology email instead.
- Problem 5
I want to show them something nicer
A plain link is fine, but a customer is more likely to share their own words if they look good.
How StoryProof solves it
From Pro, the social image designer turns an approved testimonial into a branded image you can attach or share.
Prompts
What to put in, what to leave out
A thank you works when it is specific and asks for nothing. Use these as a final check before sending.
Always include
- Their first name
- One detail from what they actually said
- Where it appears, with a link if it is live
- Your own name, not just the company
Leave out
- “Dear valued customer”
- A sentence that would fit any testimonial from anyone
Never attach
- Nothing else is needed. The message is the point.
Leave out
- A request for a referral or another review in the same message
- A discount code that reads like payment for the testimonial
- An upsell
In StoryProof
Send thank yous automatically, or by hand
Step 1 of 3
Approve the testimonial
Read it, then approve it. Approval is the moment it can appear publicly, and the right moment to say thanks.
Step 2 of 3
Turn on the thank you automation, or send your own
From Pro, the thank you automation emails the customer two hours after approval with a link to their testimonial. Without it, copy a template above and send it yourself.
Step 3 of 3
Link to where it lives
Point them to the page it appears on, or to your Wall of Love.
Before you start
Worth knowing
The automation sends one message
It is a thank you email with a link, sent after approval. Gifts, cards or calls are up to you.
It is email only
StoryProof sends the thank you by email. If you mainly talk to this customer elsewhere, thank them there by hand as well.
Gifts change the picture
If you send something of value with the thank you, especially one promised in advance, it may need disclosing next to the testimonial.
Unpublished means no “it is live”
If you decide not to publish a testimonial, thank them anyway, but do not say it is on your site.
FAQ
Questions people ask
Short answers to what usually comes up next.
When should I thank a customer for a testimonial?
A quick note the day it arrives, and a proper thank you with a link once it is published. If you can only send one, send it when it goes live.
Should a thank you include a gift?
It does not need one. A specific message is enough. If you do send a gift, read the incentive rules page first, because some gifts need disclosing.
Can I ask for a referral in the thank you message?
Keep it separate. A thank you that immediately asks for something else reads as a transaction.
What if I am not going to publish their testimonial?
Thank them for taking the time, without saying it is live. If there is a reason, such as a detail you cannot publish, ask whether they would like to send a new version.

Never forget a thank you again
