Proof for your vs and alternative pages
Testimonials on Competitor Comparison Pages
A visitor on a “you vs them” page already knows both names. What they lack is a reason to believe your side of the table. Quotes from people who switched, placed beside the rows they speak to, do that job better than a generic carousel at the bottom.
- Switcher quotes beside the rows they prove
- Nothing that names or mocks the rival
- One honest check before the page goes live
The problem, solved
What goes wrong with proof on a vs page
Comparison pages convert readers who are close to a decision. These are the proof problems that stall them.
None of our quotes mention switching
Praise from a customer who never used the rival says nothing about the move the reader is weighing, so it reads as filler on a comparison page.
With StoryProof: Put the customers who came from that rival into a contact list and send them a form that asks about the switch itself, answered in writing, audio or video from one link.
Every vs page shows the same three quotes
A reader comparing you with one product sees a switcher from a different product, and the proof quietly undermines the page it sits on.
With StoryProof: Tag each approved testimonial with the product the customer left, then choose which ones each comparison page’s widget shows.
A quote trashes the competitor by name
An angry line about the rival feels like a win, but it makes your page look less fair and can repeat a claim you could not stand behind yourself.
With StoryProof: Nothing a customer submits goes public until you approve it, so a quote that attacks the other product can be held back before it reaches the page.
We run ten comparison pages
Hand-pasted quotes on many near-identical pages drift apart, and nobody remembers which page carries which customer.
With StoryProof: Load the embed script once in the site template; it fills every StoryProof widget div on a page, and each page gets its own widget within your plan’s widget allowance.
Flip the switch to see how StoryProof handles each one.
Pre-launch checklist
Check the proof on one comparison page
Open the vs or alternative page you are about to publish and tick what is true. Run it once per competitor page, not once for the set.
Ticks stay in your browser. Nothing is sent or saved.
Which proof goes where on a vs page
A comparison page has a few predictable zones. Each one wants a different kind of evidence.
In StoryProof
Collect and place switcher proof with StoryProof
Step 1 of 4
Build a list of switchers per competitor
Add customers to contacts and group the ones who left the same product, so each request goes to the right people.
Step 2 of 4
Ask about the move, not the product in general
Use a form with prompts such as “what made you look for something else?” and “what was the first week like?”. Customers answer from one link in writing, audio or video.
Step 3 of 4
Approve and tag by competitor
Read each answer for remarks about the rival you would not make yourself, approve the rest, and tag each one with the product the customer left.
Step 4 of 4
Give each vs page its own widget
Choose the tagged testimonials for each page’s widget, and load the embed script once in the shared template.
Before you start
What to keep in mind
What this does not cover, and what to check on your side. Better to know now than after launch.
- 01
Fairness is your job
StoryProof shows the quotes you approve. Whether a remark about another company is fair and accurate is a judgement you make before approving it.
- 02
Switchers are a small group
Only some customers came from each rival. Expect a handful of quotes per page, and use one strong one rather than padding with general praise.
- 03
Permission covers the context
A customer happy to appear on your homepage may not want their name beside a competitor’s. Ask specifically about comparison pages.
- 04
Comparisons age quickly
A quote about a missing feature becomes misleading once the rival ships it. Set a reminder to review each page on a schedule you can keep.
- 05
Widgets per workspace are capped
Each plan allows a set number of widgets, so many competitor pages may mean sharing a widget between pages with the same rival.
FAQ
Questions people ask
Short answers to what usually comes up next.
Can a testimonial on my comparison page name the competitor?
It can mention where the customer came from, which is what makes it useful. Avoid quotes that make claims about the rival you could not support, and check the customer agreed to that context.
Should I show review site ratings for both products?
Only if you show them accurately and keep them current. A stale or selective rating comparison costs more trust than it earns.
What if I have no switchers yet?
Use proof about the specific strengths the page claims, from customers who chose you while evaluating the rival, and start asking new customers which product they considered.
Do alternative pages need different proof from vs pages?
Slightly. An alternative page lists several options, so proof about why customers chose you over the category works better than one competitor’s switcher story.
How long should a switcher quote be?
Beside a table row, one or two sentences. Before the final call to action, a longer paragraph or a short video can carry the full story of the move.
