For wedding photographers

Ask couples for a testimonial when the gallery lands, not when the honeymoon starts

The best moment is the evening a couple first opens their gallery. Set your delivery date below to get a dated asking plan, then collect from both partners with one link and keep their image consent on record.

  • A dated plan from gallery delivery to first anniversary
  • Prompts written for couples, not companies
  • A consent step for pairing photos with quotes

The problem, solved

Why couples’ testimonials slip away, and how StoryProof catches them

Situation 1 of 5

They fly off on honeymoon and forget me

A wedding has one emotional peak for your business, and one unanswered email a fortnight after it usually ends the chance.

How StoryProof solves it

From Pro, follow-up emails go out on their own after the first request, respect the quiet hours you set, and stop as soon as the couple replies.

Planner

Your asking plan, from gallery delivery

Pick the date you deliver (or plan to deliver) the gallery. The plan works back to the wedding and forward to the first anniversary.

  1. Day -42

    At the wedding

Do not ask for anything. Note one moment you know they loved; you will mention it later.

  2. Day 0

    Deliver the gallery

Send the gallery alone. No request in the same email; let them enjoy it.

  3. Day +2

Send the testimonial request to both partners

Address both by name, mention the moment you noted, and include your collection link. Ask each to answer, or answer together.

  4. Day +5

    Gentle reminder

One short nudge. Offer an audio note for the partner who hates writing.

  5. Day +9

    Last note

A final, no-pressure email. Then stop.

  6. Day +60

    Album or prints delivered

If they never answered, this is a natural second chance. If they did, thank them again.

  7. Day +323

    First anniversary

Send a favourite image and a line of congratulations. Some couples write their best words a year on.

Dates are worked out in your browser.

Prompts

Prompts for couples

Couples write better about feelings than about “service”. Use two of these.

About the day

  • How did you feel having us there on the day?
  • Was there a moment you did not know we caught until you saw the gallery?

About choosing you

  • What made you book us over the others you looked at?
  • What would you tell a friend who is nervous about being photographed?

For the partner who hates the camera

  • What did you expect about being photographed, and how did it actually go?

Leave out

  • Asking for a video from someone who has told you they dislike being on camera

In StoryProof

Set it up in StoryProof

  • You will need
  • Your gallery delivery date
  • Both partners’ email addresses
  1. 1

Create a form with your couple prompts

Each partner can record a video, leave an audio note or write a few lines from the same link.

  2. 2

Send the request on the plan’s day

StoryProof emails it. Add both partners as contacts so each gets their own invitation.

  3. 3

Let reminders run (Pro and up)

The follow-up automation sends the reminder and the last note three and seven days after the request, matching this plan, and stops once their testimonial arrives. On other plans, send them by hand on the plan’s dates.

  4. 4

Approve, then pair with images only if they said yes

Nothing is public until approved. Add the testimonial to your site widget or Wall of Love, and only place their photos beside it if they agreed to that use.

What happens next: Keep a note of which couples agreed to images with their words. Contracts often cover portfolio use but not a named quote beside a face.

Before you start

Consent and courtesy

What this does not cover, and what to check on your side. Better to know now than after launch.

  1. 01

Your contract may not cover this

A portfolio clause about using images is not the same as permission to show a named couple’s words beside their photos. Ask for that separately.

  2. 02

Guests did not agree to anything

Choose images of the couple alone to sit beside a testimonial. Guests, especially children, did not sign your contract.

  3. 03

    Stop after three emails

Newlyweds are busy. Three messages and the anniversary note are enough.

  4. 04

    Plans change after the wedding

If a couple later separates or asks you to take their words and photos down, remove them everywhere you used them. Keep a list of where each testimonial appears so that takes minutes.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Short answers to what usually comes up next.

When should a wedding photographer ask for a testimonial?

Two or three days after the gallery is delivered, once the couple has had time to look through it, rather than straight after the wedding.

Should I ask both partners?

Yes. Two short testimonials from one wedding read as more genuine than one, and partners often remember different things.

Can I use their wedding photos beside the testimonial?

Only with their agreement for that specific use. Ask when you send the request, and keep the answer on file.

What if the couple was unhappy with part of the gallery?

Hold the request and talk to them first. Asking for praise while a complaint is open reads as tone-deaf, and a fixed problem often leads to a warmer testimonial later.
