Reassure shoppers at the cart without distracting them from paying
Near the payment step, proof has one job: settle the worry that is stopping the order. Answer four questions about your store and the picker suggests a compact layout, or tells you to keep proof on the cart page instead.
The problem, solved
What stops an order at the last step, and how StoryProof answers it
Will it even arrive on time?
Will it arrive on time, and in one piece? Product reviews rarely mention shipping.
With StoryProof: Gather proof about shipping on purpose. On a plan with automations, your store fires a webhook when an order is placed and the buyer is sent a review request a week later, so you can ask how it arrived.
I have never heard of this store
A first-time buyer has never heard of you and is about to type a card number.
With StoryProof: Place a compact badge or avatar strip of approved reviews beside the order total. It goes in with two lines of HTML and takes up a sliver of the page.
What if it does not fit?
Clothing, furniture and anything sized: the worry is returning it, not the product.
With StoryProof: Tag the approved reviews that talk about fit or an easy exchange, then put just those into the checkout widget instead of your general praise.
Buying for someone else
A gift buyer cannot judge the product themselves and worries how it will look when it arrives, and whether the recipient can swap it.
With StoryProof: Invite past gift buyers to film the unboxing or describe it in an audio note from the same browser link, and approve only the clips that show the item as it really arrives.
Flip the switch to see how StoryProof handles each one.

Step 1 of 3
Find testimonials that mention the worry
Tag the approved ones that talk about delivery, sizing or service so you can pick the right one quickly.
Step 2 of 3
Build a compact widget with only those
Choose the layout the picker named and add the tagged testimonials. One to three is plenty at checkout.
Step 3 of 3
Paste it under the order summary
Add the embed code to your cart or checkout template, below the total and above or beside the pay button.

Limits and cautions
What this does not cover, and what to check on your side. Better to know now than after launch.
- 01
Many hosted checkouts are locked
Some ecommerce platforms do not let merchants add custom HTML to the payment step. Check yours first; the cart page is usually editable.
- 02
No links away from payment
Proof at checkout should never invite a shopper to leave. Avoid layouts that open long reviews in a new page at this step.
- 03
Show real ratings only
A rating badge must reflect the reviews you actually hold. Never type a rating in by hand.
- 04
Check speed on a phone first
Anything you add near the pay button loads at the most sensitive step. Test the cart on a mid-range phone and a slow connection before and after adding proof.
FAQ
Questions people ask
Short answers to what usually comes up next.
Do reviews at checkout distract buyers?
They can, if they are long, moving or clickable. Keep it to one compact element next to the order summary and test it before making it permanent.
Which reviews should I show at checkout?
Ones about buying from you, such as delivery, packaging, returns and service, rather than ones about the product the shopper has already chosen.
Should the checkout proof change with what is in the cart?
Only if the worry really differs by product, such as sizing for clothing and delivery for furniture. For most stores, one element about buying from you is simpler to maintain and test.
What if my reviews about delivery are mixed?
Fix the delivery problem before you spotlight it. Showing only the good delivery reviews at checkout, while others say the opposite, sets an expectation the order may not meet.
How do I know whether the proof helped?
Compare the share of carts that reach payment over a few weeks before and after, with no other change to the cart at the same time. A short test in a sale or holiday week can mislead you.
