Video migration
How to Upload Existing Video Testimonials
Most businesses already own more customer video than they think: a clip a client sent on their phone, a recorded call, a shoot from two years ago. Use the checklist to round up every file, decide which ones are still safe to show, and move them into one place you can publish from.
- Where old customer clips usually hide
- What to check on each file before it moves
- How to file them once they are uploaded
The problem, solved
Why old customer videos never get used, and how StoryProof brings them back
Our videos are spread across five drives
One clip is in a shared Google Drive, two are on the founder’s phone and the good one is in an agency’s Dropbox link that expires.
With StoryProof: The video files you already have can be uploaded straight into StoryProof, so the library lives in one workspace instead of five folders.
Nobody remembers who agreed to what
A customer filmed for a case study in 2023 may not expect to appear in an ad today, and the clip itself does not say.
With StoryProof: Uploaded clips wait for approval before they appear anywhere, which gives you a moment to confirm permission clip by clip.
Files are named VID_2041.mp4
Without a name or a topic, a video library is a list of thumbnails. Finding the one about onboarding means watching all of them.
With StoryProof: Tag each upload by product, customer type or the question it answers. Tags are on every plan, Free included.
Uploaded clips still sit unseen
Moving files into a tool is pointless if they end up in another folder nobody opens.
With StoryProof: Choose which approved videos go into each widget, and let the rest live on your Wall of Love, a hosted page included on every plan.
The archive has gaps we cannot fill
The old clips cover one product line, or every speaker is from the same kind of customer.
With StoryProof: Send the missing customers a collection link. They can record a video in the browser with no app, or leave an audio note or written review instead.

Free checklist
Video testimonial move checklist
Work through it once for the whole archive, then once per clip. Tick as you go and copy the summary into your notes.
The ticks stay in this browser tab. Nothing is sent or saved.
Where customer video usually hides
Check each of these before you decide the archive is complete.
In StoryProof
Move the cleared videos into StoryProof
- 1
Upload the files from Import
Bring each cleared video file in directly. Start with the clips you already know where you will use.
- 2
Add who is speaking
Give every video the customer’s name and company as they agreed to appear, so a viewer knows who they are listening to.
- 3
Tag by topic and customer type
Use the same tag names your written testimonials use, so a search for a product returns its video and text together.
- 4
Approve, then place
Approve the clips you have cleared and choose which ones each widget shows. Anything you are unsure of simply stays unapproved.
What happens next: Imported reviews count toward the same monthly allowance as collected ones: Free 25, Starter 100, Pro unlimited.
Before you start
What uploading does not settle
What this does not cover, and what to check on your side. Better to know now than after launch.
- 01
Old permission covers old uses
A customer who agreed to a case study video did not necessarily agree to every page, ad or social post. Ask again when the use is new.
- 02
Edit before, not after
Cut long footage to the part you need in your own video editor before uploading. Keep the original somewhere safe.
- 03
Monthly allowance applies
Uploaded testimonials count toward the same monthly allowance as collected ones, so a very large archive may take more than one month to move.
- 04
Third parties in shot
Staff, other customers or children visible in the background need their own agreement, or the clip needs to be cut.
FAQ
Questions people ask
Short answers to what usually comes up next.
Can I upload a video testimonial that a customer sent me on WhatsApp?
Yes, if you save the file itself and the customer agreed to its public use. Saving the original from the chat gives a better result than a screen recording of it.
Should I upload every old clip, even the weak ones?
Only the ones that passed the checks. A clip with doubtful permission or out of date details is safer left in the archive than uploaded and forgotten in a queue.
What about a long interview where the good part is two minutes in?
Trim it to the useful section in your own editor first, keeping the customer’s meaning intact, then upload the shorter file.
Do I need to tell customers I am moving their video?
Moving storage does not change the use. If you plan to show the video somewhere it has not appeared before, that is the moment to check with them.
How do I keep written and video testimonials from the same customer together?
Give both the same customer name and the same tags. Searching by either then brings the pair up side by side.
