In StoryProof, the Spotlight Reel shows your video testimonials as a short row of cards, and the card under the cursor expands to take the spotlight. It is video only, and it is designed to turn a section break into a moment of motion that ends with someone pressing play.
Because it has its own designed treatment, its settings are short: you choose whether star ratings show, plus the heading, colours, size and background every layout shares. Its background is transparent by default, so the reel sits directly on your section.
The preview on this page is a simplified stand-in that rotates one review with a queue beside it. The widget you embed draws your own video reviews as expanding cards.
Where the Spotlight Reel works best
- A section break on a landing page, where you want movement without a whole video section.
- Just above a demo or sign-up button, when a customer saying it on camera is more convincing than your own copy.
- Coaching, course and service pages, where buyers want to see and hear the person before they believe the result.
When to choose a different layout
- Choose the Video Carousel when you have more clips and want visitors to slide through them.
- Choose the Featured Review when your best reviews are written rather than recorded.
What the Spotlight Reel can show
Video reviews shown by their poster frames and, if you switch it on, star ratings. Author and card settings are deliberately not offered, because the cards have their own design.
Setting it up
- 1Use your few strongest clips. A reel is for standout videos, not your whole library; the Video Gallery is the place for that.
- 2Leave the background transparent unless the reel needs a panel of its own to stand out from the section.
- 3It sits inline only and is not delivered as a pop-up.
Spotlight Reel questions
Can the Spotlight Reel show written reviews?
No. It is a video-only layout. For a written review given the stage, use Featured Review or Quote Spotlight.
How is it different from the Video Carousel?
The carousel is a sliding track that moves with arrows, dots or autoplay. The reel keeps its cards in place and expands whichever one the visitor hovers.
Why does it have so few settings?
Settings that would change nothing on its designed cards are hidden rather than offered. Ratings, the heading band, colours, size and background still apply.
